National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week 2021

During the week of Monday, September 20 - Friday, September 24, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) invites all postdoctoral trainees to join us in celebrating National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week (NPAW)! NPAW is an annual celebration of the vital contributions postdocs make to the university and our community. It is a time to welcome new postdocs to our diverse and talented community and to celebrate past successes with our returning postdocs!

Below is a comprehensive list of NPAW events and giveaways that are free and open to all Northwestern postdoctoral trainees courtesy of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, Northwestern University Postdoctoral Association (NUPA), and the Office For Research.

 


Daily Giveaway (September 20–24)

Presented by the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA)

In celebration of NPAW 2021, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) is giving away 10 daily prizes to Northwestern postdoctoral trainees.

Each day during NPAW, the OPA will announce 10 winners and notify them via email. Winners must be able to pick up their prize on either the Evanston or Chicago campuses following NPAW.

To enter this raffle, please complete this form by 11:59 PM on Thursday, September 23. Please submit your entry by Sunday, September 19 to increase your chances of winning.

Monday, September 20

Donut Giveaway at Chicago Campus

Allyship and the Improv Mindset

1:30–3:00 PM CDT, Virtual

Presented by the OPA

Join instructor Byron Stewart for "Allyship and the Improv Mindset"! Allyship is a lifelong process of building relationships based on trust, consistency, and accountability. In this virtual, interactive improv workshop, students will participate in improv exercises that sharpen their inductive reasoning, refine their capacity to listen and contextualize information, and enhance their ability to build relationships through peer-to-peer dialogue. Participants will leave with a more nuanced understanding of teamwork and allyship. Registration is limited!

Re-orientation (Chicago)

The re-orientation is an opportunity for current and new postdocs to meet, make connections, and learn about various resources at Northwestern. Light refreshments will be served. There will be a giveaway for the first 100 attendees. RSVP is not required but will be helpful in estimating the headcount.

Headshot Clinic (Evanston)

NUPA Organizational Meeting

Presented by Northwestern University Postdoctoral Association (NUPA)

The NUPA Executive Committee invites you to attend their biweekly organization-wide meetings! These are meetings open to all Northwestern postdocs or interested parties to come hear what NUPA has been working on and to share their thoughts and opinions on your postdoctoral experience at Northwestern and how NUPA can support you. Most importantly, it is a great way to meet fellow postdocs!

NUPA Book Club

The NUPA Book Club meets on the fourth Wednesday each month over Zoom to discuss the Book Club Read for that month. While hosted by NUPA, you do not have to be a NU postdoc to join them!​ NUPA does ask the attendees to have some connection to either Northwestern or be a postdoc at another institution to join. Join your fellow postdocs for in-person drinks at Barcocina in Chicago, right by the Wellington stop on the CTA Purple Line, approximately halfway between the Evanston and Chicago campuses. You’ll recognize the group by the NUPA banner.
