Postdoctoral Training Opportunity - Environmental Exposure on Health, The Ohio State University

The laboratory of Loren E. Wold, PhD, FAHA, FCVS at The Ohio State University as part of the College of Nursing and the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology at the Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute in the College of Medicine is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to aid in their investigation of the impact of environmental exposures on health and disease. Recent work can be found on PubMed, and motivated candidates are encouraged to apply immediately.

Detailed Job Description:

• Conceptualize and develop hypotheses, conduct experiments and research activities in support of assigned research project, ensuring consistency with established methodological approaches and models, adherence to project timelines, and completeness of documentation;
• Write and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals that highlight findings from research and experimental activities ensuring consistency with the highest standards of academic publication
• Communicate to principal investigator/supervisor about progress and results of research activities and relevant related information in a timely manner
• Develop collaborative links and good communication skills with other members in group/core scientific staff in related program areas to gain exposure to, and build knowledge of experimental/research activities and approaches, in order to subsequently improve conceptual development and implementation of individual project
• Identify areas of improvement within the research structure using integrated management approaches in pursuit of strengthening and the preservation of scientific rigor in research studies

Position requirements:

• Doctoral degree in biology, pharmacology, or related field
• Published record of work in cardiovascular biology and disease, and/or pulmonary disease
• Working knowledge of common laboratory practices and statistical analysis
• Developed writing and presentation skills
• Experience with animal handling and models of disease

Desired experience:

• Specialized knowledge and experience in cardiovascular biology, such as animal heart failure models, fibrosis, vascular biology, myocyte biology, and/or molecular cardiology
• Advanced experience with molecular biology techniques, including, but not limited to: protein biochemistry, “omic” approaches and analyses, immunohistochemistry, advanced microscopy
• Environmental exposures, such as to particulate matter, e-cigarette use, or smoking
• Pulmonary biology including cellular and physiological measurements
