Postdoctoral Position in Pediatric Cancer Genomics at The University of Chicago

A position is available immediately for a creative and motivated postdoctoral scholar in the laboratory of Mark Applebaum, MD in the Department of Pediatrics – Hematology/Oncology at The University of Chicago.

Research in the Applebaum lab centers around improving outcomes for children with neuroblastoma by identifying new therapeutic targets and developing new risk classifiers of this disease. The laboratory focuses on integrating data from RNA-Seq, DNA methylation, and hydroxymethylation to identify and validate drivers of aggressive neuroblastoma.

The researcher will be involved in a functional evaluation of recent insights into the epigenetic regulation of transcription that enables aggressive disease. Current projects include determining the precise interplay of histone acetylation and cytosine modifications in multiple physiologic conditions.

The successful applicant will have the ability to function with independence in the techniques of molecular biology and be comfortable working with genomics data. The lab has close collaborations with laboratories in the Departments of Medicine and Chemistry and the Center for Translational Data Science, Institute for Genomics and Systems Biology, and Computational Research Institutes at The University of Chicago.

Salary will follow NIH guidelines commensurate with training and experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A pending or current PhD with experience in molecular biology, genetic manipulation of cancer cell lines, or other relevant fields of cancer biology
  • Research experience (with strong first-author publications) in molecular biology, epigenetics, cancer genomics, or a closely-related field
  • Background in validation of therapeutic targets and drug development

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in analysis of RNA-seq, and/or ChIP-seq data
  • Strong analytical, statistical, quantitative, and computational/programming skills
  • Candidates with a multidisciplinary background, spanning both molecular biology and quantitative sciences are especially encouraged to apply
