Postdoctoral Research Opportunity – Glycoimmunology, HIV, and Cancer
Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Glycoimmunology, HIV, and Cancer
Location: Chicago, IL
Institution: Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
The Abdel-Mohsen Laboratory at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join a funded research program focused on glycoimmunology and immune regulation in HIV infection and cancer.
The laboratory leads translational and basic research efforts investigating how host glycosylation, immune checkpoints, and metabolic pathways shape immune dysfunction, viral persistence, inflammation, and biological aging, with a particular emphasis on HIV and selected cancers. The successful candidate will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment integrating human clinical samples, immunology, molecular biology, and advanced data analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research on glycan-mediated immune regulation in HIV and cancer
- Work with human clinical specimens and translational datasets
- Contribute to experimental design, data interpretation, manuscript preparation, and grant-related activities
Preferred Qualifications
- D. in immunology, virology, molecular biology, systems biology, or a related field
- Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:
- HIV research, viral immunology, or cancer immunology
- Glycoimmunology, glycobiology, or immune checkpoints
- Molecular biology or immunologic assays
- Human-based translational research
- Experience with animal models
- Experience with computational or data-driven analyses is highly desirable, including epigenomic data analysis and multi-omic data integration or systems-level modeling
- Strong publication record, with at least one to two first-author papers in peer-reviewed journals
The Abdel-Mohsen Laboratory provides a collaborative and supportive training environment with strong mentorship and opportunities for intellectual independence. The lab is embedded within Northwestern’s rich research ecosystem, including close interactions with clinical investigators and interdisciplinary research centers, offering exceptional resources for translational and mechanistic discovery.
To Apply
Interested applicants should submit a CV and a brief cover letter describing research experience and interests to Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Mohsen.
