Postdoctoral Research Opportunity – AI-Empowered Computational Mechanics

The Wing Kam Liu group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern (PI: Professor Wing Kam Liu) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in AI-empowered computational mechanics with a joint appointment through HIDENN-AI, Inc. (co-founded by Prof. Liu)
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop an agentic AI system in the field of computer-aided engineering (CAE).
- Develop and apply techniques in one of the following areas:
- Reduced-order modeling methods, including but not limited to: Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD), Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD), Reduced Basis Method (RBM), Tensor Decomposition (TD), Deep Autoencoders / Manifold Learning, Neural Operators.
- Generative AI in CAE.
- Mechanistic Large Language Models.
- Machine learning for Fatigue and fracture.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to mentoring students and shaping future research directions within the group.
Qualifications:
- D. in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Civil Engineering, and Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- Excellent programming skills.
- Publication record in the technical areas listed above.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
