Postdoctoral Research Opportunity – Stem Cell and Autophagy Research in the Peng Lab

A full-time postdoctoral position is available in the Peng Laboratory, based in the Department of Dermatology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. The Peng Lab is located in the Ward building on Northwestern University’s campus in downtown Chicago. Our lab’s 5 main areas of focus are: a) using topically-delivered nanotechnology towards developing new targeted therapies for skin and corneal disorders; and b) understanding the functions of autophagy in epidermal and corneal biology; c) exploring the roles of microRNAs in epidermal and corneal biology; d) identifying novel regulators in epithelial stem cell biology; and e) explore the pathological mechanisms of chemical burn in cornea using single cell transcriptomic and spatial proteomic approaches. The Peng Lab also collaborates with colleagues within Dermatology and across Northwestern University’s Chicago and Evanston campuses to take full advantage of the rich scientific surroundings.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should hold a recent PhD, MD, or equivalent degree with strong research training in epithelial cell biology, stem cell biology, inflammation, molecular and cell biology, signal transduction/transcriptional regulation, immunohistochemical analysis, fluorescence imaging, mouse colony management, mouse models of skin/corneal diseases, single cell RNA seq, bioinformatics, or related fields. Research projects will involve in vitro work with submerged and 3D cultures of primary human epidermal and corneal epithelial cells as well as work with mouse models of skin and corneal diseases and their assessment using advanced microscopy and biochemistry.

The salary will be based on the National Institutes of Health NRSA scale and commensurate with experience.
