Postdoctoral Research Opportunity – Cardiovascular Research in the Kume Lab

A full-time postdoctoral position is available in the Kume Laboratory, based in the Feinberg Cardiovascular and Renal Research Institute (FCVRRI) and Department of Medicine at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. The Kume Lab is located in the Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center on Northwestern University’s lakefront campus in downtown Chicago. The Kume Lab investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease with an emphasis on pathological angiogenesis, endothelial gene regulation, angiogenic signaling pathways, and immune response using mouse models.

The postdoctoral scientist in the lab will conduct cutting-edge research using mouse models of angiogenesis and cardiovascular disease, molecular biology techniques, cell-based assays, confocal immunofluorescence imaging, and single-cell (nucleus) RNA-seq/bioinformatics. The Kume Lab also collaborates with colleagues within the FCVRRI and across Northwestern University’s Chicago and Evanston campuses to take full advantage of the rich scientific surroundings.

Qualifications:

Candidates should hold a recent PhD, MD, or equivalent degree with strong research training in cardiovascular biology, inflammation, molecular and cell biology, signal transduction/transcriptional regulation, immunohistochemical analysis, fluorescence imaging, mouse colony management, mouse models of pathological angiogenesis, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, bioinformatics, or related fields. Critical thinking and effective communication skills are essential qualities.

The salary will be based on the National Institutes of Health NRSA scale and commensurate with experience.
