Postdoctoral Research Opportunity – Urology, Microbiomes, and Neuroscience

Immediate opportunities exist for postdoctoral fellows to study gut microbiota modulation of cognitive function and pelvic pain in clinically relevant models at Northwestern University.

Join our interdisciplinary team to characterize the impact of the microbiome in novel mouse models where we study symptom mechanisms at the molecular, microbiologic, physiologic, and behavioral levels. We have reported differences in the GI microbiota of pelvic pain patients and developed novel murine models as platforms to dissect the mechanisms by which microbiota modulate pain and cognitive function. We now seek fellows interested in determining precisely how microglia transduce signals of specific bacteria to mediate the effects of the microbiome on pelvic pain and mood and exploiting this knowledge to develop novel therapies.

Successful candidates will have strong communications skills and a PhD and/or MD in a suitable discipline of biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, physiology, or neuroscience.

Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine is on the shores of Lake Michigan and steps from the Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago. Our state-of-the-art facilities in a new laboratory and an exciting intellectual environment in a vibrant, international city combine for a unique and superb training opportunity. Appropriate fellows will also have access to the interdisciplinary training resources of the NIDDK-sponsored Chicago KUH FORWARD Training Program and its national network, and NRSA-eligible candidates will be given special consideration.

We invite interested candidates to submit a cover letter, CV, and three references to:
