Postdoctoral Research Opportunity – Synaptic Physiology, Optical Imaging, Substance Use Disorders, and Pharmacology
Prof. Shana Augustin in the Department of Pharmacology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine invites applications for highly motivated postdoctoral scholars interested in studying the molecular mechanisms underlying synaptic transmission and its functional significance in the basal ganglia. These positions are multi-year and available immediately.
Our research seeks to understand how neuromodulatory information is decoded by G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) to influence synaptic transmission and circuit functions involved in motor control and reward-driven behaviors, primarily focusing on the interaction of the dopamine and endocannabinoid systems. This research implements advanced imaging techniques to examine neuronal modulation on a circuit, cellular, and subcellular level of investigation. Current research projects utilize two-photon microscopy, electrophysiology, behavior, and brain slice photometry. Available projects will employ the previously mentioned techniques but will include in vivo optical imaging, such as fiber photometry.
A successful candidate will have a PhD degree in neuroscience, cellular/molecular biology, or a relevant field of study. The candidate is expected to work independently in a collaborative environment and be open to learning new approaches and techniques. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in electrophysiology, optical imaging, and rodent behavior.
Our research is supported in part by the BRAIN Initiative Career Transition Award (K99/R00). Although this position will be funded, applicants will be required to submit annual applications for external funding as part of their training. Salary will be commensurate with experience. VISA application support is available for foreign applicants.
The Augustin laboratory is located on the downtown campus of Northwestern University as part of the Feinberg School of Medicine. Feinberg School of Medicine is one of the leading institutions in research and is ranked 15th in NIH funding. Northwestern offers a collaborative environment filled with innovations, making Northwestern an ideal research institution for advanced training.
To apply, please send a statement of interest and curriculum vitae and request at least two letters of recommendation to be submitted separately at shana.augustin@northwestern.edu with the subject line Applicant Name_Postdoc Position.
