Postdoctoral Training Opportunity - Nonviral Gene Delivery

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Prof. Evan Scott within the Northwestern University Biomedical Engineering Department. The Scott lab develops immunomodulatory nanomaterials for the rational design of vaccines and immunotherapies. The available postdoctoral position will focus on a new collaborative effort between the Scott Lab and biotechnology corporation Genentech, Inc. The objective of the project is to develop and validate novel gene delivery systems for targeted modulation of specific immune cell subsets. The applicant will be responsible for synthesizing, characterizing, and optimizing novel polymeric gene delivery vehicles as well as their validation in both in vitro and in vivo models.

Expertise in polymer synthesis and HPLC will be required, while experience with cell culture, animal models, flow cytometry (immune phenotyping) and/or CNS delivery will be a plus. Strong preference will be given to applicants with experience in 1) characterizing self-assembled nanomaterials and/or lipids using analytical chemistry methods, 2) development of drug delivery platforms for vaccination and/or immunotherapy.

An ideal candidate will have a doctorate in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, polymer chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or a related field and will be interested in developing new skills in the areas of vaccine design and immunobiology. This position will work in collaboration with scientists from Genentech, Inc. They are seeking a highly motivated scientist who is willing to work in top-quality, high-pressure, multi-disciplinary environments for a minimum of 2 years. The position is available immediately, but the start date is flexible. The work is progressing rapidly, and they are seeking enthusiastic and ambitious individuals to add to the team to perform high impact translational research with an industry partner.
