Postdoctoral Training Opportunity - Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative

The Position

The Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative (ILPQC) is now hiring a Quality Improvement Postdoctoral Scholar for obstetric and neonatal quality improvement initiatives with a focus on the birth equity initiative. ILPQC is a nationally recognized perinatal quality collaborative with over 100 participating hospitals. ILPQC facilitates statewide quality improvement initiatives to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes in birthing hospitals across the state by providing opportunities for collaborative learning, rapid response data, and hospital team QI support. 

This is an advanced academic research and quality improvement role, where you will conduct a specified program of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a principal investigator. 

The primary purpose of the role is to develop new or advanced research skills and competencies on the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications and scholarly dissemination, the development of funding proposals, and the supervision and mentorship of ILPQC project managers and coordinators. The trainee will also have the opportunity to develop  skills in research-led teaching for current and upcoming ILPQC statewide quality improvement initiatives, including birth equity, promoting vaginal birth, newborn antibiotic stewardship, and mothers and newborns affected by opioids.    

Eligibility

  • PhD or MD/PhD, have graduated within the last year, or anticipate graduating within the next six months.
  • A strong record of peer reviewed publications is essential, including first authorship.
  • Written and verbal communications skills, organizational skills, ability to work as a team.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and troubleshoots protocols and data obtained from quality improvement initiatives together with the PI.
  • Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting and entering data.
  • Interprets, prepares and presents results.
  • Prepares data for presentations and publications.
  • Performs scientific literature searches in support of research.
  • Helps write grants and compete for funding.
  • Completes grant applications to support own research.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • A strong record of peer reviewed publications is essential, including first authorship.
  • Written and verbal communications skills, organizational skills, ability to work as a team.
  • Experience with Quality Improvement Science (Institute for Healthcare Improvement, TeamSTEPPS, etc.)
  • Experience and interest in the maternal and infant health field
