Postdoctoral Training Opportunity - Aging and Brain Tumor Immunobiology

The Department of Neurological Surgery at Northwestern University is seeking a postdoctoral trainee to investigate the interactions between brain aging and glioblastoma immunology as it pertains to overall survival outcomes and response to immunotherapy.

This position offers an opportunity to work in the NIH-funded laboratory of Dr. Derek A. Wainwright, Ph.D. The Wainwright laboratory has a strong emphasis on the analysis of human glioblastoma tumors and clinical data, as well as young and old mouse models of glioblastoma. The postdoctoral trainee will be in a very nurturing environment for career development, with former trainees going on to become assistant professors, as well as senior scientists at AbbVie and Eli Lilly.

The postdoctoral trainee will build a publication record in leading cancer, aging, and/or immunology journals. They will also supervise rotating undergraduate, graduate and medical students, apply for internal and/or extramural funding, and will attend national meetings that build their international reputation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in immunology, cell biology, neuroscience, geroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, cancer biology or related field.

Required Competencies

  • Experience working with small animal models and mammalian cell
  • Expertise in immunology-related basic techniques such as flow
  • Ability to design and conduct experiments, maintain accurate GLP style recordkeeping, and collaborate effectively within a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Ability to prepare and present research at meetings and write scientific manuscripts in fluent
  • Murine and human immunology knowledge is preferred but not

Preferred Competencies

  • Familiarity with next generation sequencing data and gene expression analysis (single-cell RNAseq).
  • CRISPR, gene silencing and over-expression
  • Cloning and rescue of retroviral and lentiviral
