Postdoctoral Training Opportunity - Neurodegeneration

An National Institutes of Health-funded postdoctoral position is available to study the biology of neurodegeneration.  The broad goals of this project are to study proteins involved in genetic neurological disorders.  The major focus is on delineating the pathophysiology of cerebellar ataxias, Parkinson's disease, and related neurodegenerative syndromes, with the view to seek out avenues for therapy.  The lab uses an array of techniques from cell biology and biochemistry to bioinformatics and mouse genetics to understand the molecular basis of neuronal dysfunction.

The applicant will work in a state-of-the-art laboratory in a stimulating intellectual and collaborative environment provided by the Northwestern University Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program and the Davee Department of Neurology.  The laboratory is located in the downtown Chicago campus of Northwestern University, just off the “Magnificent Mile”.

Qualifications

They are looking for highly motivated individuals who thrive on intellectual challenges.  Applicants must have a PhD or MD degree and a strong background in biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology.

Familiarity with in any of the following techniques a plus: genetic engineering in mice, RNAi and CRISPR based knock-down of proteins using viral vectors, cell biology of primary neurons and glia in culture, RNA-Seq, protein biochemistry and cell-signaling, iPS technology, epigenetics, aging/senescence, mitochondrial bioenergetics, protein degradation/autophagy, cytoskeleton, and large scale proteomic approaches based on mass-spec identification of proteins.
